Top System Outages of 2009

Just like Santa's naughty roster, here's a list to avoid.  What strikes me first and foremost about these outages was how high profile they all were.  Each was a news event in itself that I'm sure kept the respective corporate public relations departments quite busy (note: if you're working in IT Operations and talking a lot to the PR folks, that's probably not a good thing). Seeing all of these high impact incidents listed together really emphasizes what's at stake when systems go down.

I'm surprised the London Stock Exchange incident in September didn't make the cut. 7 hours of trading on a major exchange down the tube, so to speak. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13846_3-10036286-62.html

I suppose there were many to choose from.
